NETTUNO concluded the European Cup in Nettuno, Italy with a 7-3 victory over the ROUEN HUSKIES. With the win, DANESI captured the second spot from this pool for the Final Four in Barcelona, Spain (June 20/21) besides L&D AMSTERDAM, which had beaten REGENSBURG in the morning. The HUSKIES, which had started the tournament with three straight victories, lost for the second day in a row and dropped to third in the standings.

The Italian vice champion took a fast 4-0 lead thanks to two runs each in the second and third. But ROUEN cut the deficit to a run with a three-run rally in the fourth, but failed to tie the game, leaving two men on. NETTUNO built up the lead to four runs again in the seventh through a pair of RBI singles and an error, sealing the win.

Manny Alexander and Giuseppe Mazzanti (3-5, RBI) scored two runs each. Ramon Tavarez and Ennio Retrosi got the other RBIs. David Gauthier drove in two for the HUSKIES. Flavien Peron had three hits, including a double.

Carlos Richetti started for the host of the EC, allowing three runs on seven hits in 3 1/3 innings. Giovanni Carrara (W 1-0) replaced him in the fourth, stopped the ROUEN rally and struck out five in three innings of scoreless relief. Remigio Leal (S 1) followed with four punch-outs in the last 2 2/3 innings.

TJ Stanton (L 0-1) took the mound for ROUEN, giving up eight hits, seven runs (5 ER) and four bb in 6 2/3 innings. He sat down seven batters with strikeouts. Robin Roy had three K’s in the last 2 1/3 innings.
