Led by a strong Yulman Ribeiro (W 1-0) FORTITUDO BOLOGNA marched into the second round of the European Cup in Matino with a 5-0 victory over the TEMPLIERS SENART. Ribeiro, who came from Spain to Italy this winter, allowed just four hits in seven innings, while striking out seven. Alessandro Ularetti and Fabio Milano sealed the shutout with scoreless frames. It was the third win for a Italian Baseball League team on Friday, in which they didn’t allow an opposing run.
The offense of BOLOGNA only came through twice on Friday, scoring three runs in the third and two in the fifth. But that was enough against a harmless TEMPLIERS team. Daniele Frignani drove in two with a single. Claudio Liverziani, Matthew Stocco and Juan Angrisano also got RBIs. Giovanni Pantaleoni went two-for-three with a walk and a run scored.
Evan Blesoff (L 0-1) received the starting nod for SENART, inducing six hits, five runs (1 ER) and three walks in six solid innings. He struck out four but had no luck, as his defense didn’t help with three errors. Steven Vesque pitched the last two innings.
FORTITUDO is going to battle with the FC BARCELONA on Saturday for a spot in the European Cup Final Four in June. The TEMPLIERS have to beat AVG DRACI BRNO to avoid relegation.
