On Wednesday the preliminary round at the European Championships Cadets in Brno, Czech Republic continued with day two. In pool A Italy and the Netherlands each won their second game of the tournament and qualified for the semi-finals. In group B everything is still wide open.
Germany – Netherlands 7-13
The Dutch team scored eleven runs between the third and the fifth frame en route to a 13-7 win over Germany. First baseman Jerremyh Angela went four-for-four with two doubles, a triple, four runs scored and three RBI. Left fielder Rachid Engelhardt also collected four hits. Catcher Kevin Koenig had three doubles and three RBI for the German squad.
Austria – Russia 2-10
Nikita Lobanov struck out eleven in five scoreless innings to lead Russia to a 10-2 win against Austria. Second baseman Nikita Atadzhanov drove in three. Dmitry Semenov scored four times.
Ukraine – Italy 6-20 (5)
One day after scoring 20 runs against Germany, Italy put the same number on the board against the Ukraine on Wednesday. They scored nine runs in the fourth to blow the game wide open. Catcher Alberto Mineo went two-for-two with three walks, a triple, a double, five runs scored and four RBI. First baseman Davide Anselmi collected four hits and three RBI.
Slovakia – Czech Republic 6-16
The Czech team scored in six of the seven innings en route to a 16-6 win over Slovakia in the evening game in Brno. Catcher Michal Vykoukal went five-for-five with three doubles, a triple, four runs scored and four RBI.
