Telemarket Rimini – Corendon Kinheim 6-2
Telemarket Rimini has won the European Cup in Barcelona and will play a European Champions Cup Final Series against the European Cup winner from Regensburg in early August. The Pirates defeated Corendon Kinheim 6-2 on Sunday afternoon. Two runs in the first and four in the third gave Rimini the edge.
It was an interesting matchup, which saw offense dominate in the beginning and pitching taking over afterwards. Enorbel Marquez-Ramirez turned out to be the player of the game, pitching four scoreless innings of one-hit, one-walk relief to earn the win.
A RBI single by Alex Romero and a RBI groundout by Adolfo Gomez gave Rimini an early lead in the first. Kinheim answered with Remco Draijer’s sac fly in the second. But Telemarket put a four-spot on the scoreboard in the third to extend the lead. Leonardo Zileri had the big hit during the rally with a two-run single.
Yorman Bazzardo started for the Pirates, issuing five hits, two runs (1 ER) and three walks in three-plus frames. After Carlos Pezzullo bridged the gap to Marquez-Ramirez with a pair of scoreless innings, Rimini was in safe waters. Leon Boyd got the starting nod for the team from Haarlem. He issued two hits, two runs and two walks in just one inning. Jean Paul Gulinck also wasn’t able to stop the Telemarket offense. Pim Walsma closed it out.
Following the conclusion of the tournament the Technical Commission announced the award winners. Zachary Samuels (Draci Brno) was the leading batter with a batting average of .571. David Bergman (Corendon Kinheim) had an ERA of 0.00 in 18 innings pitched for the best pitcher trophy. Adolfo Gomez (Telemarket Rimini) was named Most Valuable Player.
