The ROUEN HUSKIES already won their third game in the European Cup in Nettuno/Anzio on Thursday. They beat the PORT OF ANTWERP GREYS 5-4 in eleven innings thanks to a brilliant relief appearance by Keino Perez (W 2-0) who had shut out the TENERIFE MARLINS in a complete game just one day ago.
With the game going to extra innings, the French Elite League club decided the outcome in the top of the eleventh, when Kenji Hagiwara was hit by pitch with the bases loaded, forcing the winning run Jordan Bert home. Perez, who replaced starter Alexandre Sochon (6.2 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 2 BB, 4 SO, 110 pitches) in the seventh and allowed just one hit in 4 1/3 scoreless innings, sat down the GREYS in order in the bottom of the frame, securing the victory.
MERKSEM had tied the contest in the fifth through a solo homerun by Bryon Bell. The slugging outfielder later relieved Robbe de Jongh (9 IP, 8 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 5 BB, 3 SO, 148 pitches) on the mound and took the loss, being responsible for the decisive run on one hit and three walks, while striking out four in two innings of relief.
ROUEN took a 4-2 lead in the top of the third on a two-run single by Kenji Hagiwara and a RBI double by David Gauthier. Hagiwara finished with three RBI. Bell and Kevin Knollenburg each had three hits and two RBI for the GREYS.
The HUSKIES had won both of their matches on Wednesday against the MARLINS and L&D AMSTERDAM. They are now 3-0 and will play the BUCHBINDER LEGIONAERE on Friday and DANESI NETTUNO on Saturday. The GREYS are scheduled to play a second game today, facing REGENSBURG at 16:00 CET in Anzio. They already lost 2-4 on Tuesday against the PIRATES.
