It was quite a year for Spain National Team manager Mauro Mazzotti who capped his season with a historic Qualifier win that will allow Spain to play the Worl Baseball Classic in March 2013. In Mulhouse, Mazzotti, a fresh nominee for the Coach of the Year Award, will take a look at 1st and 3rdt situations from both offensive and defensive perspectives. He will also talk to the participants about the rundowns.
Mauro Mazzotti, Spain National Team
Mazzotti was born in Cesena in 1959, he has a degree in physical education and started his technical job in 1984 being manager for the fallowing teams: Mediolanum, Codogno B.C, the Pirates of Rimini, Fortitudo from Bologne, BBC Grosseto and he came back in 2009 to Rimini with the Pirates.
Since last year, he became the General Manager of San Marino.
Mazzotti also has been a scout in Europe for the Seattle Mariners from 1994 until 2006. In 2007 he became the coordinator for the scouting in Europe for the Houston Astros.
As a manager, Mazzotti won 4 Italian cups (1990-91-2003-05), 2 Re-cups (1991-92), 1 Super Euro Cup in 1992, 4 “Scudetti’ league (1999-2003-05-07) and had the coach of the year award in 2005 and 2007. He is the only coach in Italian history to win the Scudetto league with three different teams (Rimini 1999-Bologne 2003 and 2005- Grosseto in 2007). He was part of national staff in 2001 as third base coach and in 2005 to 2007 as a bench coach.
2012 has been a year to remember for the Italian manager as his club team, San marino repeated as Italian champions.
Then, in September, Spain exceeded expectations with a bronze medal at the European championships followed by a World Baseball Classic qualifier win over Israel, good for a ticket for the World’s biggest baseball event in March 2013.
