The Czech Republic won their first game at the European Championship in Hoofddorp on Friday morning by a score of 12-0 against Russia. After a scoreless first the Czech team added two runs apiece in the second and third to take the lead. Six runs in the sixth blew the score wide open and led to an early ending due to ten-run rule.
Matej Hejma went 3-for-5 with a pair of home runs and four RBI to lead the Czech offense. He also scored three runs. Martin Schneider collected three hits and two runs. Petr Czech and Petr Zyma each drove in two. Maxim Monakhov and Artemiy Artamonov had two hits each for Russia.
Radim Chroust and Michal Sobotka shared the workload on the mound. Chroust went four scoreless innings, allowing just three hits. Sobotka closed it out for the win. Anton Shirokiy got charged with the loss, conceding seven hits, four runs and three base on balls in three innings.
