The semi-final series in the Dutch Hoofdklasse kicked off on Thursday evening with a pitcher’s duel between DOOR Neptunus and the Konica Minolta Pioniers. A walk-off RBI single by Benjamin Dille in the bottom of the eleventh frame finally decided the outcome and lifted Neptunus to a 1-0 victory. Eugene Kingsale scored the winning run after reaching with a one-out single, advancing to second on a passed ball and to third with a steal.
However the story of the night was the pitching on both sides. Starters Diegomar Markwell (NEP) and Eddie Aucoin (PIO) didn’t give in and exchanged zeros for the first eight innings. Markwell went eight frames, allowing just a fifth-inning double and three walks. Aucoin stayed on the mound for nine innings, issuing two hits and two bb. He struck out seven. Dushan Ruzic (W 1-0) won the battle of the bullpens against Arshwin Asjes (L 0-1).
