A selection of Dutch professional players led by manager Ben Thijssen faces the Netherlands Antilles national team for two exhibition games at the Tio Daou Ball Park in Curacao according to Honkbalsite.com. The first match was scheduled for Friday evening with the second following on Tuesday. The proceeds of the two games will benefit the Antillean team.
The Netherlands all-star team includes seven players from last year’s Baseball World Cup team: Arshwin Asjes (Reds), Dennis Neuman (Red Sox), Yurendell de Caster, Sharlon Schoop (Giants), Randall Simon, Hainley Statia (Angels) and Curt Smith (Cardinals). Additionally Major Leaguers Wladimir Balentien (Reds), Jair Jurrjens (Braves) and Shairon Martis (Nationals) also will be on hand.
The team is completed by Raywendley van Gurp (Mets), Michelangelo Trinidad (Pirates), Sundrendy Windster (Giants), Diegomar Markwell, Eldrion Regina (both DOOR Neptunus), Rensfer Jansen (Wild Cats), Edelcurney Jansen (Groot Kwartier Stars) and Tariq Martines.
They will take on a Netherlands Antillean team, which will play in the South American Games in Colombia next month. The roster is similar to the team, which played in the Baseball World Cup last September. Andley Simmons, Ardley Jansen, Jair Josepha, Johannes Gregorius Jr., Lorvin Louisa, Orsendo Clemencia, Quincy Ascencion, Edinho Meyer, Raynard Doran and Ulrich Snijders are expected to play.
