In the Dutch Hoofdklasse Pickles UVV and L&D Amsterdam won two close games on Saturday. The game between Curacao Neptunus and Hoofddorp Pioniers was postponed until Monday due to rain.
Amsterdam beat HCAW 5-3. Kevin Heijstek pitched seven strong innings, allowing just one run on four hits in seven innings. Nick Urbanus had three hits, while Linoy Croes connected for a home run. HCAW made things interesting with a two-run rally in the ninth, when Seb Visser drove in two with a single. But a flyout to second and a strikeout ended the contest.
UVV also survived a late rally by their opponents, as they edged out DSS 8-7. The team from Utrecht led 8-3 after seven innings, but Haarlem got within a single run thanks to four runs in the eighth and the ninth. A lineout to short left the bases loaded in the eighth, while a runner was on first in the ninth, when a flyout to second ended the game. Rodney Daal and Bryce Cherry hit home runs for UVV.
