Posted on September 17, 2007 by MrBB

The Netherlands topped Great Britain 6-1 on Sunday, to win the European championship in Barcelona. They also qualified for the Olympic games 2008 in Beijing. They finished with an undefeated record of 8-0 in the tournament and outscored their opponents 100-14.

After the extra-inning drama on Saturday, the Dutch lost no time and scored early against the British team. They lead 3-0 after ROGEARVIN BERNADINA launched a solo-shot in the third. Three more runs in the seventh frame sealed the win.

The UK started a little rally in the ninth. They loaded the bases with one and two outs, but only ADAM ROBERTS crossed home plate after a throwing error from right fielder DIRK VAN“T KLOOSTER. DARREN HEATH grounded out to end the game.

BERNADINA finished with two hits, three runs and two RBI. HAINLEY STATIA had three hits and two RBI.

DAVID BERGMAN got the win with seven strong innings. He allowed only one hit and two base on balls. He struck out six. 54 of his 86 pitches were strikes. BRIAN ESSERY received the loss. He gave up six runs, three earned, on eight hits and one walk in 6 1/3 innings.
