The Australian Baseball League continued on Saturday with three close games. The Canberra Cavalry with Mariekson Gregorius and Donald Lutz at short and first base split a doubleheader against the Melbourne Aces. In the afternoon game the Aces won 3-1 in seven innings. Greg Wiltshire (W 1-0) issued just four hits, a run and two walks to lead Melbourne to the victory.

In the night cap Canberra blew a two-run advantage in the last two innings of regulation, but walked off with a 9-8 victory after eleven innings in the end. Lutz scored the game-winning run, crossing the plate on a fielding error by shortstop Matthew Lawman. Lutz went a combined 0-for-5 with a walk, a hit by pitch, a sac fly and two runs scored. Gregorius collected three hits in ten at-bats on the day with a two-run triple and a run scored.

In the third game on the day in the ABL Perth Heat lost 3-4 to the Adelaide Bite thanks to a RBI double by Quincy Latimore in the top of the ninth. In the bottom of the frame center fielder James McOwen saved the win for Adelaide when he threw out Mathew Kennelly at home trying to score from second with two outs. AVG Draci Brno’s Wayne Ough (W 1-0, BS 1) got the win in relief. Telemarket Rimini’s Dushan Ruzic started and struck out seven in seven innings (4 H, 2 R, 1 BB) for Adelaide.
