The Australian Baseball League continued its busy schedule before Christmas with two games on Friday. The Canberra Cavalry also won the second game against the Perth Heat thanks to a nine-run sixth inning. German right fielder Donald Lutz initiated the big rally when he opened the frame by reaching on a fielding error by shortstop Mitchell Graham. He later scored on a RBI single by Dutch shortstop Mariekson Gregorius and capped the rally with a big three-run homerun, his second of the season. Canberra prevailed 9-5 in the end.
In the second game the Sydney Blue Sox rode a complete game two-hitter by David Welch (W 3-0) to a 5-0 shutout over the Adelaide Bite, getting some payback for the walk-off loss on Thursday. Sydney scored four runs in the first two innings. They hit Bite starter Paul Mildren hard. He issued seven hits, four runs and four walks in 4 2/3 innings. Five of the seven hits went for extra bases. Alex Johnson and Michael Lysaught hit homeruns for the Blue Sox.
