Corendon Kinheim outfielder Dirk van ‘t Klooster reached his 997th hit in Hoofdklasse in last weekend’s series versus L&D Amsterdam Pirates. This means that according to his batting average per weekend, Van’t Klooster in coming weekend of 3 games versus Vaessen Pioniers is expected to become the second Hoofdklasse player in history with the record of 1,000 hits total.
The first to reach this record was Marcel Joost in 1999, then also Kinheim outfielder.
Van ‘t Klooster, born in Amsterdam 23 April 1976, debuted in Hoofdklasse season 1993 as left handed player of Amsterdam Pirates. Later he also played for RCH Racing Club Heemstede and DOOR Neptunus.
As member of the Netherlands national team Van ‘t Klooster participated in Olympic Games 2000 in Sydney, 2004 in Athens and 2008 in Peking. In 2000 he was elected best right fielder of the Olympic tournament. In 2005 he became right fielder of the All Star Team of World Cup Tournament 2005.
