With the opening of their new state of the art baseball stadium scheduled for the beginning of the 2014 season, Dutch Hoofdklasse runner-up Vaessen Pioniers has opened the offseason with a big splash. 37-year-old outfielder Dirk van’t Klooster is arriving from Corendon Kinheim.
One of the best hitters in the Hoofdklasse he played eight years for the club from Haarlem. The Pioniers will be his sixth club in 22 years in the top division in Dutch baseball. He was best batter in 2002, 2005 and 2010 and MVP in 2005. He is only the second player in the history of the league to pass the 1,000th hit mark. He is currently at 1,122 hits, chasing the all-time record of Marcel Joost (1,166).
Van’t Klooster also has played for the Amsterdam Pirates, Quick Amersfoort, RCH Pinguins and DOOR Neptunus. He batted .299 with 11 extra base hits, 36 runs and 25 RBI in 41 games for Kinheim.
