Some days ago, we reported about a new Latin American and Caribbean series, which should take place in Venezuela starting last Wednesday. Cuba and host Venezuela, who will both be at the World Cup of Baseball, are among participants.
It was planned, that this event would rival the original Caribbean Series, played in February. They announced a field of seven teams (Cuba, Venezuela, Columbia, Nicaragua, Puerto Rico, Panama, Brazil). But there were and are many difficulties in the organization of the tournament. The series should have started at October 3, but was rescheduled for October 10. At the beginning of this week, the field was reduced to four squads: Cuba, Venezuela, Columbia and Nicaragua. Now there are only three confirmed teams. Nicaragua didn’t arrive yet in Venezuela and will not participate due unknown reasons.
The competition started indeed on Wednesday with a game between Venezuela and Columbia. But the result is still unknown, according to baseballdecuba.com. Yesterday evening Cuba matched up with Columbia. So at least they get some test games before the upcoming World Cup in Taipei.
