For the first time since 2012 the New York Yankees have reached the American League Championship Series. On Wednesday evening they defeated the Cleveland Indians 5-2 in the decisive fifth game of the best-of-five American League Division Series presented by Doosan. New York’s shortstop, Didi Gregorius, hit a pair of home runs in his first two at-bats and fielded a key double play later in the game to spark the Yankees win.
“For me to be here with these guys is just unbelievable,” Gregorius said to MLB.com. “This amazing, young team that we’ve got, everybody helps each other out here. Everybody wants each other to be good. I think that’s the motto since I got here.”
They are now facing the Houston Astros in the ALCS, which had eliminated the Boston Red Sox in four games. The first game of the best-of-seven series will be played on Friday in Houston.
