Demolition of Ballpark “Stadio Europeo – Nino Cavalli” in Parma

The former ballpark of the Italian Baseball League club Cariparma “Stadio Europeo – Nino Cavalli” is history. The stadium was demolished from December 6th to January 22nd. Photographer Marco Vasini of the newspaper La Repubblica documented the process with a picture gallery. Parma is going to play at the new ballpark “Quadrifoglio– Aldo Notari” (pictures), which was inaugurated during the 2009 Baseball World Cup in September with the second-round match between Japan and Mexico.

The “Nino Cavalli” was built in 1971 for the European Championship and hosted several international tournaments, including the Baseball World Cup in 1978, 1988 and 1998, the European Championships in 1971 and 1999, the Intercontinental Cup in 1973 and the European Championship Juniors in 1977. In 1999 it was named after Nino Cavalli, an important figure in Parma Baseball. Construction for the new ballpark began in 2007.
