9-10 October 2010 The first edition of the Polish Women’s Softball Cup was scheduled in Brzeg, Poland. 4 teams participated in the tournament:

  • Szóstka Brzeg
  • Delfiny Brzeg
  • Caper Kędzierzyn Koźle
  • Diamonds Warszawa

After first day of competition, this year champs in the Polish Softball League Szóstka Brzeg swept both games in the tournament, defeated Diamonds Warszawa 11-1 and then easily beat Caper Kędzierzyn Koźle 26-1. Meanwhile Delfiny Brzeg played only one game where their confidently won against Caper 8-0. This was Diamonds first time year in the Polish Softball league.

The result of the second day was Delfiny defeating Diamonds 14-0 early in the day to setup up an exciting afternoon final between Delfiny vs Szóstka. Both clubs are 2-0 coming into the game but Szóstka has the experience of winning the Polish Softball League champions four times on their side, where Delfiny came up too short four times. The questions before the game were can Delfiny Brzeg finally get the monkey off of its back and who would step up and lead their team to victory?

Both teams are from Brzeg, Poland so the stands were filled to the max, each side of the stands for each team. The crowd would be a factor helping each side gain a lead early on but after 5 innings of play the score was tied at 4. Aleksandra Grzeszczak lead off the top of 6th with a single for Delfiny, Natalia Wyrwas, Szóstka seems to have everything in control by strikeout the next two hitters, then in a bizarre move she intentional walks Natalia Litwin, which puts the winning run in scoring position. Karolina Górka made here pay with a RBI single, that drove in Aleksandra, which would eventually be the game winning run. Maja Sokal added another RBI single to add some cushion to make it 6:4 lead for Delfiny.

Monika Chrząszcz, Szóstka would make it interesting with a triple in the bottom of 6th but was left stranded there. Aleksandra would go on and pitch a complete game to earn the win and crown Delfiny Brzeg the Polish Women’s Softball Cup champs.

After the celebration for Delfiny there was an official closing ceremony. All teams in the tournament would get a commemorative statuette, but Delfiny also received significant cup. The Technical Commission chosen the tournament’s MVP as well: for her great play as shortstop, pitcher and catcher with best offensive statistics (for 13 AB – .538 AVG, .769 SLG, .615 OBP and 6 RBI), combined with her attitude at the field, Ewelina Klimek from Szóstka Brzeg get the award.
