The Italian Baseball League Club DE ANGELIS GODO, last year finishing in seventh place, continued to bolster its roster for the upcoming season last week, adding three pitchers to the staff of manager Maurizio Zoli. The former Minor League hurler Brandon Camardese, the IBL veteran Victor Arias join the team as well as pitching prospect Danny Forte.
Camardese is 25 years old and is from Kendall, Florida. He attended the University of Miami, before being selected by the Cincinnati Reds in the 2005 amateur draft. He played for their Rookie and Single A affiliates in 2005 and 2006. In 2007 he played for the independent league team in Charlotte County. Last year he got another chance with a Major League organization, being picked up by the Toronto Blue Jays, splitting time with the Single-A and Double-A teams in Dunedin and New Hampshire. He finished the year with Edmonton of the Golden League. The southpaw Camardese looks back at a 2-2 record with an ERA of 5.13 in 52 minor league games (eight starts), striking out 93 (37 walks) in 107 innings.
The Venezuelan right-hander Arias is 28 years old and comes from DANESI NETTUNO. He is pitching in Italy since joining PATERNO in 2004 and played for NETTUNO the past three seasons. In 2008 he had a 2-0 record with an ERA of 4.35 in twelve games (two starts). He struck out 26 (23 walks) in 39 1/3 innings.
Forte is a 18-year-old pitching prospect, which has played in the Venezuelan Liga Paralela during the winter. He will also reinforce the staff of the Under-21 club of GODO. They played their first preseason game on Saturday, losing 3-8 against TELEMARKET RIMINI in a ten-inning warm-up.
