Pool play rolled on today with 6 games, including Pool A games between Chinese Taipei Vs Australia and an all COPABE region affair between Canada and Venezuela. These games will play an important role in determining Pool A final rankings and which teams will advance to the second phase.

South Korea Vs Puerto Rico 0 – 10

Jose Perez C. Stadium, (home of the Aragua’s Tigres of the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League) hosted South Korea and Puerto Rico in their Pool A game. Puerto Rico’s foundation was strong on the back of a complete game 2 hit shutout by starter Maria Zayas, striking out 3 and walking 3 over 5 innings. Puerto Rico out-hit South Korea 12 -2.

Netherlands Vs Canada 1 – 12

Canada moved to 3-0 in Pool A with a comprehensive 12-1 victory over Netherlands. Offensively Canada put up 11 hits, including 3 by 2nd Baseman Nicole Luchanski. Strong pitching from Martine Nadeau and Shayla Sashavar, combining for 8 strikeouts over 5 innings of work proved too much to handle for the Dutch offense, managing only 3 hits on the day. Canada also plays Venezuela in a key Pool A game in the evening game at Perez Stadium.

Chinese Taipei Vs Australia 0 – 4

Australia and Chinese Taipei were in must win situations and went the distance to find a result, with Australia edging Chinese Taipei 4 – 0 over 7 innings. Australia found 2 extra runs in the top of the 7th to push aside any hope of a Chinese Taipei fight back in the final stages of the game. Shih-Han Sung collected 2 of Chinese Taipei’s hits, while 3 players form Team Australia had multi-hit games. Melinda Latimer and Laura Needs combined to shutout representatives from Asia, with Latimer striking out 8 in 4 innings.

Puerto Rico Vs USA 0 – 9

Team USA moved to 3-1 with a 9-0 shutout of Puerto Rico this afternoon in Maracay. Consistent team hitting spearheaded by Sarah Gascon’s 3 hit 2 rbi performance, combined with solid pitching from 6 Team USA hurlers paved the way for the victory. Team USA has completed all its games in first round play, Puerto Rico will face Japan in a must win situation

Chinese Taipei Vs Netherlands 11 – 0

Chinese Taipei’s 11 runs and 11 hits combined proved too much for the developing Dutch Squad at Aviacion Field in Maracay Venezuela this evening. The Dutch did not help their cause making 6 errors defensively. Chinese Taipei starter Wan-Yu Teng through 6 solid innings, allowing only 2 hits while striking out 3. Yin-Hsuan Wang and Shih-Han Sung each had 2 hits on the day.

Canada Vs Venezuela Suspended, Rain
