Looking at Day 2 of the European Championship

Posted on July 24, 2010July 24, 2010 by philipp

After a rainy and chilly day one at the 2010 European Championship in Germany with two rainouts, the organizers hope for a full game day on Saturday or the rescheduling could become a major problem.

The day starts with the matchup between two losers from opening day, as Spain takes on Croatia in the morning game in Stuttgart. Yoel Hernandez takes the mound for the squad of Mauro Mazzotti, which lost 1-9 against Italy. Ernesto Pereira could be a candidate to start for Croatia.

In Heidenheim the second game day starts at 1pm with Belgium most likely using Terence Antonacci and Kenny Vandenbranden against the Ukraine after their opener against France was washed out. In Stuttgart the second game will be between Great Britain, which dominated Croatia on Friday, and Sweden, which lost a wild one in Heidenheim against Greece.

Later in the afternoon at 5pm the Netherlands and France try to play their first game of the tournament in Neuenburg. The pitching matchup could be between Diegomar Markwell (NED) and Samuel Meurant (FRA). In Heidenheim Tiago Da Silva or Cody Cillo will be sent out to the mound at 6pm by Italy’s manager Marco Mazzieri against the Greek team. Greece could turn to Chris Lemonis.

The second game day will be concluded by the Germany-Czech Republic matchup in Stuttgart at 7pm. Enorbel Marquez-Ramirez (GER) and Boris Bokaj (CZE) are the probable pitchers. Germany’s head coach Greg Frady also wouldn’t rule out to change a few positions in the starting lineup.

Regarding the rainouts from Friday, the Czech Republic and the Netherlands will most likely have to play a doubleheader on Monday, France and Belgium on Tuesday.

Schedule Day 2:
July 24:
10:30 Spain – Croatia (in Stuttgart)
13:00 Belgium – Ukraine (in Heidenheim)
14:30 Great Britain – Sweden (in Stuttgart)
16:00 Netherlands – France (in Neuenburg)
18:00 Greece – Italy (in Heidenheim)
19:00 Germany – Czech Republic (in Stuttgart)
