Daryl Thompson to pitch for Fortitudo Bologna in Asia Series 2013

Posted on October 15, 2013 by philipp

Fortitudo Bologna, which is going to make European Baseball history in a month with their participation in the Asia Series 2013, will reinforce its roster with Daryl Thompson. The 27-year-old right-hander from Maryland takes the role of Raul Rivero who apparently is not available for Bologna during the tournament in November.

Thompson appeared in four MLB games with the Cincinnati Reds in 2008 and 2011. In the Minors he looks back at 11 seasons of professional baseball with the Montreal Expos, Washington Nationals, Reds, Minnesota Twins and New York Mets. He has a career ERA of 3.66. In 2013 he split time between the Triple-A affiliate of the Mets and Southern Maryland in the Atlantic League. He went 12-5 with an ERA of 3.24 in 26 games (24 starts). He struck out 83 and walked 42 in 136 innings.

He is the third reinforcement for Bologna besides Alexander Burkard and Pat Venditte. In Taichung Fortitudo, as the reigning European Champions Cup winner, will face the champions of the Chinese Professional Baseball League, the Australian Baseball League, Nippon Professional Baseball and Korea Baseball Organisation.
