The Czech National Team has arrived in Taiwan for the upcoming Intercontinental Cup. On Thursday they played an exhibition game against Italy in Taichung, losing 2-12 to the European Champion. It was already the fourth warm-up match for the Squadra Azzura and the second win in two days. They out-hit the Czech squad 19-8 and blew things open with four runs in the fourth and five in the ninth. Mario Chiarini led the way at the plate, going 4-for-5, while Laidel Chapelli collected three hits in the game. Jakub Hajtmar and Pavel Budsky had two hits each for the Czech Republic.

On the mound Cody Cillo, like Tiago Da Silva the day before, hit 89 MPH on the radar gun. He struck out six batters in five innings, allowing one unearned run on three hits and a walk. Luca Panerati, Andrea Pizziconi, Alessandro Maestri and Justin Cicatello followed Cillo in relief. Czech coach Pavel Chadim gave nine of his pitchers some work, sending Boris Bokaj, Jan Rehacek, Radim Chroust, Tomas Duffek, Vojtech Jelinek, Jan Homolka, Jan Tomek and Jan Blazek to the mound.

Both teams will finish up preparations on Friday with practice sessions. On Saturday Italy is going to open the Intercontinental Cup 2010 against arch rivals Netherlands, while the Czech Team has to take on Cuba.
