The Czech Extraleague is opening the 2012 season on Easter Weekend. The format during the regular season changed slightly, as matchups were upgraded to three-game series each weekend with doubleheaders being played on Saturdays. Technika Brno is the defending champion, ending the domination of AVG Draci Brno. Both teams will enter the new year as favorites for the title. Back on the Extraleague scene is Olympia Blansko, which replaces Express Brno, which withdrew from the competition this winter.
