The Czech Extraleague got under way this Saturday with four doubleheaders.
Reigning champion Draci Brno welcomed the Tempo Titans Prague with 18-5 and 6-4 wins into the 2013 season. In game one Draci took a quick and commanding 16-5 lead after four frames en route to the blowout after seven. Jakub Hajtmar excelled with four hits and four runs. Martin Schneider hit a home run. Game two was much closer, but Brno still prevailed with two runs. Titans newcomer Jeffrey Guthridge struck out six in seven strong innings.
Technika Brno took away two wins from the Eagles Pragues. In game one Technika erased a 3-4 deficit in the last frame to win 6-4. The second game turned out to be even wilder with Brno blowing an early 5-1 lead and the score being tied 6-6 in the sixth. Technika moved ahead 10-7 in the end and a last push by the Eagles was stopped right in time for a 10-9 guest win.
Kotlarka Prague celebrated a pair of easy victories over the Arrows Ostrava. Kotlarka won 10-2 and 9-2 to have a perfect start into the new year. Petr Cech homered for Ostrava, but couldn’t avoid the sweep as Prague overmatched the guests from the east.
Skokani Olomouc and Hrosi Brno settled for the split on opening weekend in the Czech Republic. Skokani won 7-3 in game one in part one of the doubleheader which was heavily influenced by bad weather according to reports. In game two Hrosi shut out Olomouc by a score of 9-0.
