Both teams from Brno sucessfully finished their semifinal series and will compete in the Extraleague final series starting on October 13th.
AVG Draci Brno came to Ostrava with two wins from previous the weekend.
The Arrows started the game with a two run homerun by CITOVECKY, but Draci immediatly turned it around and led after 4 innings with 2-5. In 5th inning a three run HR by GRIFFIN tied the game at 5-5. But 1 inning later Draci scored the game winning run to make it 6-5.
The Arrows started on the mound with BOKAJ who was replaced by VOTAVA and later by REHACEK. AVG Draci’s starter was PROCHASKA was relieved by the closer BLACKMORE who recorded the save in this game. AVG Draci swept Arrows Ostrava 3-0 (7-3, 5-3, 6-5) in this semifinal.
The second semifinal series was also decided on Saturday.
MZLU Express Brno won both weekend games in Prague against Krc Altron and advanced to the Czech finals for the first time in club history.
Friday’s game was canceled due to rain and bad field conditions and the teams had to play a double header on Saturday. In the first game, which was broadcasted by a local sport channel the starting pitchers were KUBAT (Express) and lefthander HUSEK (Krc). The Express had a better start into the game and scored 6 runs in the 6th inning and continued to put runs on the board. After five it was 11-0 and KRC starter was long replaced by KUS. But KUS and later REZNICEK could not stop the super hot Express bats and the game ended with 17-0 in the 7th (10-Run-Rule).
The second game was closer. HOMOLKA started for Krc and for the Express JELINEK took the mound. Express took the lead early and was ahead 4-0 after 6 innings. Krc scored their 1st run of the weekend in the 7th and later in the 8th added 1 more run to make it 4-2. But that was all the Krc offense was able to produce and with the final score of 4-2 MZLU Express won the series with 3-1 game (7-3, 3-9, 17-0, 4-2).
The play-off series for a spot in 2008 Extraleague play have also been played. The first series between Technika Brno and Black Hill Blansko ended 3-1 for Technika (0-1, 8-2, 11-1, 9-2). In the second series Skokani Olomouc faced the Tegola Titans Praha and won with 3-1 games (8-5, 8-9, 3-2,4-0).
Now, Black Hill Blansko will have to play another series in order to stay in the Extraleague against the winner of the 2nd Czech Baseball League (Liberec Patriots). The Tegola Titans Praha will face the runner up of the second league (Sokol Hluboka). Both best of five series will start on Saturday October 13th.
