While the German finals between the Buchbinder Legionaere Regensburg and the Heidenheim Heidekoepfe are on a break this weekend due to the European Champions Cup Final Four in Barcelona, the playdowns will get finished on Saturday.
In the northern division the Cologne Cardinals need two wins over the Pulheim Gophers to avoid relegation into the 2nd Baseball-Bundesliga. Even if they reach seventh place in the final standings they still have to play a relegation series. Further up in the rankings the Dohren Wild Farmers and the Dortmund Wanderers will battle for fifth.
In the southern division the Neuenburg Atomics already know that they have to go into the second division since a couple of weeks after winning just once in 38 games this season. They will close out the season with home games against the Gauting Indians. The Indians hope to end a four-game losing streak and try to secure fifth place. In the second matchup in the south the Saarlouis Hornets are hosting the Mainz Athletics. If the Hornets finish the season in seventh place they would be on line to play a relegation series. The Athletics wouldn’t have to, since their second team won the championship in the 2nd Baseball-Bundesliga this year.
