The joint CEB/ESF Congress in Prague, Czech Republic got concluded with several decisions. During the Congress of the Confederation of European Baseball (CEB) on Saturday morning, Krunoslav Karin from Croatia was named new secretary general after winning the election over Monique Schmitt from Switzerland, who will remain on the executive board. The position was vacant after the tragic death of Xavier Mateu last June.
Additionally the annual awards were announced during the CEB Congress. Scorer of the Year became Stephanie Winkler (Germany), Umpire of the Year Arnoldas Ramanauskas (Lithuania), Coach of the Year Oleg Boyko (Ukraine) and Federation of the Year Switzerland. The inaugural “Xavier Mateu Award for Excellence” went to Marga and Cristina Mateu in memory of Xavier Mateu.
The last decision regarding the awarding of 2014 competitions was also made during the weekend. Paderborn and Dortmund in Germany will host the U15 European Championship in July. It will be the first time that the Cadets Euros is organized in Germany. The CEB website www.baseballeurope.com is currently being re-designed, a process which is scheduled to completed by March 1st. No elections were on the agenda of the ESF Congress. While various technical details were discussed during the weekend, the delegates also confirmed the calendar and the final entries for the 2014 competitions as well as made the drawing for the U22 European Championship Women and the Junior European Championship Women.
