Day two at the CEB Cup in Rouen and Chartres, France featured four games, three ended due to ten-run rule after seven innings. Olimpija Karlovac and the Rouen Huskies picked up their second win. Also Nada SSM Split and the Barracudas Montpellier reached the win column. Friday will decide about the semi-final participants.
Vienna Wanderers – Olimpija Karlovac 9-15
The morning game at the CEB Cup in Rouen was a back and forth affair between two day-one winners. Vienna hoped to have reached the victory lane, when they scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh of a 7-5 advantage with six outs to go. However with two outs in the top of the eighth closer Andreas Lastinger faltered and gave up ten runs on six hits and four walks in two innings. Nikola Sertic hit a home run and drove in four. Ross Vukovich scored four times. Andrew Oberthaler scored five runs for the Wanderers.
Minsk – Montpellier Barracudas 2-14
The Montpellier Barracudas scored 14 runs in the first six innings en route to a 14-2 win over Minsk in the afternoon in Rouen. Four runs in the fourth and six in the sixth blew the score wide open. Will Musson and Eric Herman hit home runs and combined for seven RBI. Gregory Cros pitched six scoreless three-hit innings for the win. Yauheni Kisliakou got charged with the loss. Andrej Venkel had a double and scored Minsk’s first run.
Zurich Barracudas – Nada SSM Split 1-12
Nada SSM Split recovered from the 0-17 loss to the Rouen Huskies on day one and blew by the Zurich Barracudas 12-1 in seven frames. They took a quick 4-1 lead after two innings and ended the contest with a six-run sixth. Trevor Caughey struck out seven in seven strong innings for the win. His battery mate Andrija Tomic went 5-for-5 with two runs and two RBI. Josh Crouse scored the lone run for Zurich. Andreas Ruesch took the loss.
Rouen Huskies – KNTU Elizavetgrad 11-1
The Rouen Huskies got things going in style, scoring 11 runs in the first of an 11-1 victory over KNTU Elizavetgrad in the early evening game in Rouen. Larry Infante belted a pair of three-run home runs as part of the big rally. He now has 14 RBI in two games after going 4-for-4 with eight RBI in the opener. Anthony Piquet pitched four scoreless innings. Artem Lopata lasted just two outs in the first and got charged with the loss. Afterwards Mykola Liakhovetskyi did a fine job keeping the Huskies off the board.
Outlook
Four games conclude the preliminary phase at the CEB Cup in Rouen and Chartres on Friday. In the morning the Vienna Wanderers hope for their crucial second win against Minsk. Afterwards KNTU Elizavetgrad takes on Nada SSM Split. In Chartres the Barracudas Montpellier and Olimpija Karlovac meet up. In the evening the Rouen Huskies faces the Zurich Barracudas.
