The Technical Commission of the Confederation of European Baseball (CEB) confirmed today that they have approved the proposal by the Italian Baseball and Softball Federation (FIBS) to host the second European Cup in Matino. The Italian city is located south of Brindisi. The other EC tournament also takes place in Italy, as Nettuno was appointed to organize the event months ago.
The CEB also announced that the finals for both European Cups will be cancelled to safe costs for the participants and the organizers. These games would be meaningless anyway, as the two top teams of each event advance to the Final Four in Barcelona, Spain, the so-called European Champions Cup, which will be held on June 20 and 21.
The two European Cups will start on Tuesday, March 31st and last until Saturday, April 4th. Each group consist of six teams, which will play a single round robin. The two first-ranked teams qualify for the European Champions Cup. Due to the early date in the season, teams are allowed to submit a final roster of 24 players instead 20 on March 30th. A preliminary roster has to be received by the CEB on March 17th.
