CB Barcelona has won the 2014 Copa del Rey in Bilbao, the league cup tournament of the Spanish Division de Honor for the best four teams. Barcelona defeated current Division de Honor champion and 2014 leader Tenerife Marlins 12-2 in the Gold Medal Game on Sunday.
Five runs each in the fourth and the fifth decided the outcome and turned the contest into a blowout at the same time. Oscar Angulo homered and drove in three. Eric Paez issued seven hits, two runs (1 ER) and three walks in seven innings to pick up the win. Jose Estebin Cruz took the loss.
Barcelona beat CBS Sant Boi 6-3 in the semi-final on Saturday. Four runs in the first set the tone early. Larry Jose Suarez went the distance for the win. In the second semi-final Tenerife edged out host San Inazio Bilbao 8-5. Leslie Nacar pitched a complete game and Yancarlo Franco hit a solo home run. Sant Boi then claimed third place with a 4-1 victory on Saturday evening.
