The Caribbean Winter Leagues are fully underway. This is the next update for games until November 3, 2013 which includes a stellar debut by a German outfielder.
Dominican Winter League
Jurickson Profar: The Dutch shortstop from the Texas Rangers is one of the best hitters in the Dominican Winter League. He has hits in eight of his last ten games and is now batting .383/.483/.574 with six extra base hits, 13 runs and 4 RBI in 13 games for the Tigres del Licey.
Engel Beltre: 24-year-old outfielder Engel Beltre, who was playing for Spain in the World Baseball Classic, made his season debut in the DWL at the end of last month. He his 3-for-12 with two runs in four games also playing for the Tigres.
Liga Mexicana del Pacifico
Alex Liddi: The Italian third baseman has found his rhythm in Mexico, playing for the Tomateros de Culiacan. He has hits in seven of his last nine games. Overall he is .254/.286/.394 with two home runs, four doubles, five runs and nine RBI in 19 games.
Kalian Sams: The Dutch outfielder from The Hague is struggling playing for the Algodoneros de Guasave. He had hits in just three of his last ten games. He dropped to .190/.319/.431 with three home runs, nine runs and 11 RBI in 17 games. At least he is walking at a solid rate (ten walks in his last ten games).
Donald Lutz: The German outfielder joined Yaquis de Obregon last week and got off on the right foot. After making his debut as a pinch hitter, he went 4-for-5 in his first appearance in the starting lineup and is 8-for-18 with three doubles, three runs and two RBI overall.
Puerto Rican Winter League
Started on November 1. Players with European ties haven’t taken the field yet.
Venezuelan Winter League
Carlos Duran: The veteran outfielder from T&A San Marino is batting .308/.296/.500 with a triple, three doubles, six runs and four RBI in 14 games for Caribes de Anzoategui.
Ramon Castro: Rimini’s infielder has played just five games since October 22. He is batting .261/.393/.391 with three doubles, a run and four RBI in nine games for the Tigres de Aragua.
Juan Carlos Infante: Bologna’s leadoff man is mired in a slump. He waits for a hit in his last 15 at-bats for the Tigres de Aragua. Overall he is batting .152/.263/.273 in 12 games in his home country.
Rodney Medina: The outfielder, who is suiting up for the Bravos de Margarita, is mostly used as a pinch hitter. He has just 20 at-bats in 11 games, collecting hits in five of them.
Yulman Ribeiro: He hasn’t pitched for the Leones del Caracas since October 26. He has an ERA of 5.00 in five games, allowing ten hits, eight runs (5 ER) and two walks in nine innings.
Ricardo Hernandez: He hasn’t played for Navegantes de Magallanes since October 15.
Diegomar Markwell: The Dutch left-hander hasn’t played for the Leones del Caracas since October 19. He had given up four hits and two walks in 5 2/3 scoreless innings through three games.
Jesus Yepez: The left-hander continues to be a specialist for certain moments for Aguilas del Zulia. In ten games he has an ERA of 4.50, issuing seven hits, three runs (2 ER) and one walk in four innings. He has struck out four.
Darwin Cubillan: The right-hander is playing for Leones del Caracas. He hasn’t played since October 18.
Yorman Bazardo: After seeing three starts at the beginning of the Winter League season, the right-hander from the Rimini Pirates was moved to the bullpen. He has an ERA of 7.11, but hasn’t allowed any runs in his three relief appearances.
Tiago Da Silva: The Sao Paolo native is playing for Leones del Caracas. He is 1-0 with an ERA of 2.41 in five games (four starts). He allowed 19 hits, six runs (5 ER) and three walks in 18 2/3 innings, while striking out 19.
