While the European Baseball season is mostly over, the Caribbean Winter League season 2013/2014 just got underway. A couple of players with ties to European Baseball have signed up to play in the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Puerto Rico (starts on November 1) and Venezuela. A first update through October 20, 2013:
Dominican Winter League:
Jurickson Profar: The infielder from the Texas Rangers is playing for Licey and is 2-for-6 with a walk, a run and a RBI in his first two games.
Liga Mexicana del Pacifico:
Alex Liddi: The corner infielder from San Remo is playing for Tomateros de Culiacan. Through eight games he is batting .233/.314/.367 with a home run, a double, two runs scored and four RBI.
Kalian Sams: The outfielder from The Hague is a member of Algodoneros de Guasave. He has appeared in six games so far, going .240/.240/.600 with two home runs, a triple, a double, three runs scored and five RBI.
Venezuelan Winter League:
Ramon Castro: He played for Rimini this summer and is wearing the jersey of the Tigres de Aragua in the winter. He is 3-for-9 with two doubles, a run and a RBI in four games.
Juan Carlos Infante: Bologna’s leadoff hitter is Castro’s teammate in Aragua. He is batting 3-for-15 with three walks, a home run, a double, five runs scored and four RBI in five games.
Carlos Duran: T&A San Marino’s slugger is 3-for-10 with a double, two runs and a RBI through six games with the Caribes de Anzoategui.
Darwin Cubillan: T&A San Marino’s closer is playing for Leones del Caracas. He has allowed four hits in three scoreless innings through four relief appearances, while striking out three.
Yorman Bazardo: He won the Coppa Italia with Rimini this season. In Venezuela he plays for the Tigres de Aragua. Through three starts he got charged with 16 hits, 11 runs (10 ER) and one walk in 10 1/3 innings, while striking out 11.
Diegomar Markwell: The Dutch left-hander is playing for Leones del Caracas. DOOR Neptunus’ ace has issued four hits and two walks through 5 2/3 scoreless innings in three games. He struck out three.
Yulman Ribeiro: This summer he was playing for the Godo Knights. In the winter he is Markwell’s teammates with Leones. He also has appeared in three games so far, allowing four hits, three runs (1 ER) and a walk in six innings. He struck out four.
Tiago Da Silva: The Brazilian with Italian passport from T&A San Marino is also playing for Leones del Caracas. He started two games and is 1-0 with an ERA of 1.13. He conceded eight hits, two runs (1 ER) and a base on balls in eight innings. He collected eight K’s.
Ricardo Hernandez: The left-hander of CB Barcelona earned the win and struck out his lone batter he faced for Navegantes del Magallanes.
Jesus Yepez: The southpaw of Ronchi dei Legionari is a lefty specialist for Aguilas del Zulia. He gave up two hits in 1 1/3 innings of work through four games, while striking out one.
