The Australian Baseball League kicked off a new week on Thursday with two games. The Adelaide Bite defeated the Sydney Blue Sox 4-3 thanks to a walk-off RBI single by Brendon Pett in the bottom of the ninth. Dushan Ruzic (W 3-0, BS 1) picked up the win in relief. Sydney had erased a 0-3 deficit in the game, but couldn’t complete the job. Boss Moanaroa (Sydney) and James McOwen (Adelaide) exchanged homeruns. Chris Oxspring, who signed a minor league contract with the Detroit Tigers organization this week, struck out nine in six innings for the Blue Sox.
In the second game of the day the Canberra Cavalry defeated Perth Heat 7-5, ending a four-game losing streak. Canberra took a fast 6-2 lead through four innings and held on to it in the end, stopping a rally by the ABL leader in the eighth. Donald Lutz hit his league-leading third triple of the season to drive in a run. Mariekson Gregorius went 1-for-4 with a run. Nick Kimpton drove in two. Tim Atherton (W 1-1) picked up the win; Liam Hendricks (L 1-3) took the loss.
