The Canberra Cavalry split a doubleheader against the Perth Heat on Saturday, but still won the series as they picked up victories in three of the four games this weekend. In game one Perth scored eight runs between the second and fourth inning en route to an 8-1 win. Ryne Price went deep twice for the Heat. Ronnie Welty and Evan McArthur also homered. Mariekson Gregorius scored the lone run for Canberra.
In game two the Cavalry had the better start, took a fast 4-0 lead after three innings and prevailed 6-4 in the end. Michael Collins went 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Gregorius doubled twice, scored a run and drove in another. Donald Lutz, who hadn’t played in the first game, was 0-for-3 with a pair of walks.
In the other matchup on Saturday the Adelaide Bite scored three runs in the sixth to break a 2-2 tie in a 7-3 win over the Sydney Blue Sox. James McOwen hit a two-run homerun for Adelaide. Scott Gladstone went 3-for-3 with a double, two runs and a RBI. The Australian Baseball League continues on Sunday with games between Melbourne and Canberra as well as Adelaide and Sydney.
