MEX 010 200 002 5 10 0 AUS 000 030 21X 6 10 1
In a meaningless matchup – Mexico is already eliminated, Australia advances anyway – the Aussies won by a final score of 6-5. They improved their record to 5-1, but won’t carry the win over into the third round. Mexico had the better start taking a 3-0 lead through four innings. But Australia tied the contest in the fifth thanks to Brad Harman’s three-run homerun. They took the lead in the seventh and added an important insurance run in the eighth to seal the win. Mexico tried to rally in the ninth, but couldn’t get the tying run over the plate. Abel Martinez and Mario Valenzuela hit homeruns for the Central American team. Australia used eight pitchers in the game with Paul Mildren picking up the win. Francisco Cordoba took the loss.
