Australia was involved in another extra inning affair at the Baseball World Cup on Tuesday, but this time their opponent had the better ending. Taiwan scored four runs in the bottom of the tenth to win 5-4 on a two-run walk off homerun by Hung-Yu Lin. A fielding error by shortstop James Beresford had helped to cut the deficit to 3-4. The Aussies had taken a 4-1 lead in the top of the inning due to an error a RBI single by Chris Snelling and sac fly by Luke Hughes. The game was tied 1-1 since the third.

David Welch (AUS) struck out 13 batters in seven impressive innings, allowing just one run on four hits. Wen-Yang Liao (TPE) issued four hits, four runs (1 ER) and three bb in nine-plus innings. He punched out eight. Yu-Ching Lin picked up the win, Paul Mildren took the loss.
