After already having met during the preliminary phase in Zagreb with Nicaragua winning 10-0 in seven innings, Great Britain also lost the second match. But they showed big improvements, losing only by a score of 1-4 and holding the Latin Americans in the ballpark. A three-run rally in the top of the second was the difference in the end.
Adolfo Matamoros went three-for-four with two RBI. Sandor Guido scored twice. Chris Falls drove in the lone run for the British team with a fielder’s choice in the bottom of the second. Diego Garcia went the distance, allowing five hits, one unearned run and a walk. He struck out three in nine innings for the win. Brian Essery took the loss, issuing eight hits, four runs (3 ER) and a bb in seven innings.
