Playing an away game at their home field, the Netherlands scored nine runs in the first two innings en route to a 10-5 victory over European rival Spain. The early rally was highlighted by seven runs on seven hits in the second frame. The squad of manager Mauro Mazzotti tried to come back and cut the deficit to 5-9 in the fourth. But they only produced zeros after that and lost.

Yurendell De Caster, Sidney De Jong, Raily Legito and Hainley Statia combined for eight Dutch RBIs. Seven different players crossed the plate. Emmanuel Febles had the most productive day for Spain with three RBI. Paco Figueroa went three-for-three with a walk.

Juan Carlos Sulbaran (NED) started and allowed five runs on three hits and four bb in 3 1/3 innings. Nick Veltkamp received the win. Antonio Noguera took the loss, issuing six hits, seven runs and a walk in one-plus innings.
