South Korea has ended the Spanish dreams of the third round at the Baseball World Cup. In Amsterdam on Sunday afternoon, the Olympic champion scored a run each in the last to frames to prevail 2-1. They are now tied with Venezuela for fourth in the Pool F standings. But due to their 1-4 loss to three-time world champion on Friday, they will not move up. Spain could have advanced with a victory and a loss by Nicaragua in the evening.
Spain had taken a 1-0 lead in the top of the sixth on a RBI single by Paco Figueroa. But South Korea didn’t needed much time to find an answer, tying the game with three consecutive singles in the seventh and deciding the outcome with a bases loaded walk in the eighth. Yoel Hernandez (ESP) struck out nine in 5 2/3 innings, giving up three hits and two bb. Seung-Lak Son (KOR) conceded five hits and a run in also 5 2/3 innings. Won-Sang Yoo picked up the win, Pedro Belmonte the loss.
