After Cuba had taken a fast 2-0 lead in the top of the second frame thanks to a two-run single by Jose Abreu, Spain stayed close until the record champion blew things wide open with eight runs in the last three innings. Yulieski Gourriel and Ariel Pestano hit homeruns. Pestano and Abreu combined for eight RBI on the night in Amsterdam. Frederich Cepeda scored three times. William Domero had two of the four Spanish hits. Miguel Gonzalez picked up the win with seven scoreless innings, giving up two hits and three bb. Pedro Belmonte pitched seven solid innings, allowing seven hits and three runs (2 ER) for the loss.
