Nicaragua started strong into the Baseball World Cup, defeating Croatia 10-1 in the second game of Pool D in Zagreb. Jimmy Morales hit his first of two homeruns in the opening frame to put the guests ahead. A five-run rally in the fifth, where Morales also put the ball over the fence, blew it wide open. Estaban Garcia also homered for Nicaragua.
Armando Sanchez (W 1-0) gave up just one hit and four walks in five innings to receive the win. Ernesto Pereira (L 0-1) surrendered six hits, seven runs and three bb in 4 1/3 innings.
