Box score

The Netherlands stunned Cuba 4-1 in the evening game in Santiago, Panama on Thursday and will play in the 2011 IBAF Baseball World Cup.

After they beat Australia 2-1 in the completion of Wednesday’s rainout in the afternoon, they used two-run homeruns by Bryan Engelhardt and Kalian Sams to improve to 5-1 in the second round of the tournament. Their opponent will be determined in the games on Friday. The championship game will be played on Saturday at 5pm local time at Rod Carew Stadium in Panama City.

Orlando Yntema (W, 1-0) stifled the bats of the record champion, allowing four hits, a run and two walks in five innings. Leon Boyd relieved him in the sixth and closed it out retiring six of the remaining eight batters.

Astounding news the Dutch beat Cuba. Congratulations to the Dutch and especially their pitching staff who have performed so well. Can you believe what this does for European Baseball. I just hope that they can do it again in the final (against Cuba most probably).
No since GB beat the USA in the first final, or USA beat England at football or North Korea did so well in 1966 football world cup has there been such a momentous turnover in sport,
