After getting in at the hotel at 2am in the morning, Germany lost its opening game at the 2011 IBAF Baseball World Cup 4-5 against Nicaragua. Five errors led to a four-run first for Nicaragua. But Germany answered with a solo homerun by Donald Lutz in the second and a bases clearing double by Jendrick Speer in the fourth to tie the contest. A sac fly by Christian Ramirez in the sixth finally decided the outcome, as the team of head coach Greg Frady couldn’t answer again. Martin Dewald (L, 0-1) got the start and took the loss after seven innings, seven hits and five runs (3 ER). Germany will take on Korea on Monday evening.
