The Dutch national team continues to surge at the 2011 IBAF Baseball World Cup. On Sunday evening they closed out the first round with a 7-3 win over host Panama, improving to 6-1. Four runs in the third inning put them on the route to the victory. Bryan Engelhardt had a two-run double during the rally. Danny Rombley and the Schoop brothers also had their piece on the win.
Rombley laid down a perfect sac bunt with two strikes in the third, had a couple of key catches in left field, threw out a runner on second and hit a solo homerun in the ninth. Sharlon and Jonathan Schoop cooperated with back to back hits for the first Dutch run in the second. In the fifth they executed a double steal with Sharlon stealing home.
Rob Cordemans allowed ten hits, three runs and a walk in 6 1/3 innings for the win. He left in the seventh inning after a comebacker deflected from his leg. Berry van Driel and David Bergman closed it out.
