After two impressive performances, which resulted in a pair of one-run losses, Germany got crushed for the first time at the 2011 Baseball World Cup on Tuesday. They had no chance against the Dominican Republic, which scored 11 runs in the first four innings en route to a 13-2 pounding. Germany’s starting pitcher Tim Henkenjohann (L, 0-1) was chased with one out and the bases loaded in the first. But the bullpen wasn’t much better with the exception of 18-year-old Daniel Thieben, who kept the powerful lineup scoreless in 1 1/3 innings. At the plate Max Kepler-Rozycki and Donald Lutz drove in the two German runs with a RBI single and a sac fly in the sixth.
