Only 200 people wanted to see the preview for Saturday’s game for seventh place at the Baseball World Cup, as Venezuela beat Taiwan 6-4. The lone remaining Asian team in the tournament got off to a better start, taking a 1-0 lead on a solo homerun by Po-Yu Lo in the first.
But Venezuela answered right away in the bottom of the same frame. Rene Reyes tied the contest with a RBI single. Wuilliams Vazquez followed with a three-run homerun for a 4-1 advantage. A RBI single by Michael Sandoval and an error put two more runs on the board in the sixth. Taiwan started a late rally in the ninth. But the three runs were too little too late.
Junior Guerra (W 2-2) issued five hits, one run and four walks in five innings. Chih-Lung Huang (L 1-2) gave up ten hits, six runs (4 ER) and three bb in 5 2/3 innings.
