The British Softball Federation is hosting the London Cup, an international women’s fastpitch softball tournament, on the weekend of 7-8 July, and spectators were welcome!
The tournament will be a rare opportunity to watch the full GB Under-19 National Team, a GB Select Team made of up Senior and Under-22 players, Senior National Teams from France and Ireland, and an Under-19 Team from the leading Czech softball club Joudrs Prague play ‘fastpitch’ softball, one of the most exciting forms of the game and the Olympic format of the sport.
The event will take place at the Farnham Park Baseball and Softball Complex, the UK’s national facility and very own ‘Field of Dreams’.
The GB Under-19 Team is the defending European Junior Women’s Champion, and will be using the Cup as a warm-up event for the 2018 European Junior Championship, which starts on 16 July in Italy.
Play kicks off at 10.00 am on Saturday and 9.00 am on Sunday, with the Final scheduled for 2.30 pm on Sunday, followed by the Closing Ceremony.
Food will be available throughout the tournament from 9.00 am on Saturday and 8.00 am on Sunday at the Home Plate Bar & Kitchen on site next to Field 1.
BaseballSoftballUK Fastpitch Development Manager Johanna Malisani said: “Having an international fastpitch event at Farnham Park, the home of British Baseball and Softball, is critical to continue to promote fastpitch softball both for our existing players and those that we are working tirelessly to engage in schools and with other local community partners to take up and fall in love with the sport.
“It is an opportunity for our National Team players to be role models and inspire the next generation of young girls, and it is an opportunity for our young athletes to see the game played at a very high standard and get excited about the sport and their place within it.”
