Brian Scarcella has agreed to pitch a few months for his former club CARIPARMA during the 2009 campaign of the Italian Baseball League. The 34-year-old right-hander will bolster the pitching staff until the Romanian right-hander Mihai Burlea is available. PARMA and the Dutch club RCH MEDIA MONKS currently await a solution about the double contract situation. The two federations will speak during the current CEB congress in San Marino.
Scarcella pitched for PARMA between 2000 and 2002, and had another stint in Italy with T&A SAN MARINO in 2004. In 72 games he had an ERA of 3.71 with 188 strikeouts (74 walks) in 225 1/3 innings. He also was in consideration to join the Italian National Team for the 2004 Olympics, but was left of the final 24-man roster. Scarcella moved back to the United States satellite equipment building company, but continued to play Baseball in independent league teams.
